Then upload this file in Canvas Assignment DSW 1, by 10 AM on Monday. 1) What is the hypothesis being tested? Do vital signs within kids change when AAT (Animal assisted therapy) animals are being used? 2) What is/are the organisms being studied? The organisms being studied are immunocompetent kids between the ages of 3-17. The kids that were selected for this were all able to at least use the pain face scale (commonly used in hospitals) and were reporting pain greater than 2/10. The kids also selected were those who weren’t scared or allergic to dogs. They also excluded any of the kids with infectious diseases for both the handlers and their own health. 3) What are the treatments and controls in these experiments? The treatment for this was putting the kids who would be exposed to AAT in a room and letting the dog go and sit next to the kids. There would be no interaction The control group were kids who were scared or allergic to the dogs. The positive control is the The negative control is the group of individuals who didn’t get to use the AAT
4) What were the results? Both groups felt less pain in in the end, but the kids who used AAT animals saw a greater decrease in pain. 5) List 2 or 3 conclusions drawn from this study. The use of AAT animals with sick kids even for 15-20 minutes can reduce the amount of pain being felt. 6) What were the limitations of this study? Limitations of this study were that the dog died. They had a very small sample size being used so this makes applying the results to this study very hard 7) Is this holistic, reductionist and in vivo or in vitro method? Holistic In Vivo 8) Which part of the paper you do not understand? The wording and format was a little hard for my brain to grasp at first, but after the first few initial reads it was starting to click. Another part I didn’t understand was finding the positive and negative control groups.
