Young Earth vs. Naturalistic Evolution
Old earth versus young earth, who is right? Old earth is the naturalistic evolutionary view
of evolution. Young earth creation or creationism is the belief that the bible's account of creation to be true. Evolutionists believe that the earth is millions of years old, and we evolved from plants and animals and then to humans over different time periods. Young earth creationist argue that the Bible and faith of God's word was the beginning and the beginning of the Old Testament and Genesis to be accurate. According to Moses Maimonides, a philosopher in the medieval era, “conflicts between science and the Bible arise from lack of scientific knowledge or a defective understanding of the Bible.” (Schroeder, 1997, pg. 3) Young Earth Creationism
In the beginning of the Bible, in the first book called Genesis, God lays out how it was all
created. He explains this all happened in a six-day period. Young earth creationism says each day
was 24 hours. Creationists are “in general agreement that creation week only occurred a few thousand years ago, with 6000 to 10,000 being most likely.” (Ross, Whitmore, Gollmer, Faulkner, 2015, pg. 194) As Genesis explains, day one began with the heavens and earth and the separation of light and dark. On day two the atmosphere was formed. On day three the lands and
oceans were created along with plants. Day four brought the sun, moon, and solar system. They were called the timekeepers. On Day five the skies and the sea were filled with marine life and flying animals. On day 6 God created land animals and made man first and then woman in his image. (Adam and Eve.) Adam and Eve were given dominion and authority over all of creation. Then the fall of man began. eve was tempted by the serpent and ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. After this sin takes over. Geologists say the text “indicates

over 1600 years between the fall of man and the flood of Noah.” (Ross, Whitmore, Gollmer, and Faulkner, 2015, pg. 197) Some say plate tectonics or what God used to cause the flood. One philosopher in the 1600s, Nicholas Steno, expressed his belief that earth “was almost 6000 years old and organic fossils and sediments and strata were laid down by Noah's flood.” (Reed and Oard, 2006, pg. 7) He sat down many principles interpreting rocks in records that are still used by geologist today. there is also a geologic feature called “The Great Unconformity.” This “indicates a period of erosion and a non-disposition. Young earth creationist explains this is erosion before the flood.” (Ross, Whitmore, Gollmer, Faulkner, 2015, pg. 198) Some other evidence of the young earth creation view is fossil trackways and how they are placed, mountain ranges in the continents and the existence of Pangea. Young earth creationist believe that the supercontinent was created and separated by the great flood. Natural Evolutionary Theory Evolution is “the development by natural causes of all organisms, those today and those yesterday from other forms, originally perhaps developed from nonliving substances to living substances.” (Ruse, 2001, pg. 12) Evolutionist believe that the earth began 4.6 billion years ago in life about 55 million years ago. Evolutionists believe that molecules formulated into other molecules with the help of heat and electricity forming everything in life itself. There is something called the geologic column that was created to represent “the vertical or stratigraphic relationship of rocks around the world. It was built off the basis of patterns of fossils there is much evidence that deems this column to be true. “(Ross, Whitmore, Gollmer, and Faulkner, 2015, pg. 182) Precambrian is the name given to the time era of eons during which the earth was

formed. During this time oceans and continents along with organisms were formed as well. There have been fossils of rocks that appear to be billions of years old. The Paleozoic time era is where fossils of animals including dinosaurs and mammals have been found. Evolutionists believe that Rodina was considered the first continent. This continent was said to be around 700 million years ago, and the plate tectonics have got us to the continents we have today. The next era is the Mesozoic. This is known for reptiles that have evolved into other reptiles. The final era of evolution is called the Cenozoic era. In this area monkeys are evolved into homo erectus also known as primates and then into human or homo sapiens.
Challenges
These two theories of creation are some of the most debated topics and both have challenges. The “naturalistic evolutionary view is more detailed and established than the young earth view.” (Ross, Whitmore, Gollmer, Faulkner, 2015, pg. 200) one argument against fossil evidence and the dating being incorrect is the use of carbon 14 in the amounts that are used in the
fossils. Another challenge is with plate tectonics which is having young earth creationist investigate more on Noah’s flood. Conclusion I am a Christian and a believer, but I believe there is truth in both theories. I think God is the creator of everything. I do think God created things to evolve into more complex things or beings. Could we be interpreting it wrong? Could each day in genesis be millions of years and times were just recorded differently? I know I have seen too many miraculous things to not believe in their creator of this world.
