2 When thinking about the current culture and context, I believe the relevance model at its core is the most accurate. At the core of the relevance, "It sees Christ at work in all "movements in philosophy toward the assertion of the world's unity and order, movements in morals toward self- denial and the care for the common good, [and] political concerns for justice." It is not just that these things are good in some general way—they are the work of God's Spirit." (Keller 2012, 201) Most of the people in the LGBTQ Community, or not asking for more rights. They are asking for equal rights. I have found the correlation between the written word and oral tradition fascinating during my studies. While studying the evidence for the resurrection, one thing that caught my attention was that they wrote down that women were the first to find an empty tomb. This would have been incredibly embarrassing in those times. Women were thought of as less than. They were not credible witnesses. This has led me to look at everything the Bible has written in a new light. Andy Crouch mentions that same kind of realization in his book, Culture Making. In Culture Making, Crouch talks about the repetition of a word. And how certain words were repeated in the last part of Genesis 1. He concludes that they must be important, given their lack of paper and the heavy implication on oral tradition. (Crouch2008, 101-107) "From Genesis 1 we learn that the world is the work of a Creator, already part of a creative society ("Let us make humankind in our image") that seeks to bring into being a beautiful, ordered, meaningful world" (Crouch 2008, 111) "So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female." (Genesis 1:27). We are all created in God's image. I believe that should
3 actually mean all. While the Relevance Model has flaws, it has a base for the common good of all. The key to Relevance Model fitting the current context lies in the belief that "Relevant seek to engage culture by reinventing the church's ministry to be more relevant to the needs and sensibilities of people in the culture and more committed to the service and good of the whole human community" (Keller 2012, 202) Ultimately, the Relevance model takes the current context and uses it to reach the people within a specific culture.
