List and briefly define attributes of the Jump Cut. Your Answer: A jump cut is a cut made between two different scenes that are not continuous, which creates a gap within the film. An example of a jump cut would be being in present time and instead of continuing the film in the future the next shot is from the past. This type of editing can either throw off the audience with confusion, suspense or discontinuity. We see many jump cuts in the film Memento as we are jumping from the past, present and future. The article discusses how Campbell tends to be a tool or building block for many storytellers even subconsciously. Vogler’s Article even displays on page 6, a side by side comparison of Campbell and another story only supporting its inspiration. An example would be how Campbell believes that for a hero’s journey the said hero must be confronted with a call for adventure. We see something like this in 3:10 to Yuma when Dan is hired to deliver Wade for money to pay off his debt or in Memento when he realizes that he has short term memory loss. Campbell also states how some heroes tend to reject this call for adventure in which we see in Casablanca when Rick refuses to help his once lover..
