Hello Class,
My name is Christopher, and I am fortunate enough to live in Washington State on the
Olympic Peninsula just across the water from Seattle. I’m retired after spending 17 years in the
Grocery business and serving 8 years in the U.S. Army and currently continuing to work towards
achieving my bachelor’s in business administration. Critical thinking skills are vital to just about
every aspect of our lives. Providing one with the opportunity to step back from a pre-conceived
notion one may have based on first impressions and dealing with the situation as it unfolds in an
appropriate manner.
The differences between experience, interpretation, and analysis are experience is
describing our experiences (I got the job I interviewed for!), interpretation is one’s own attempt
at understanding another’s experiences (I got promoted because I’m smart!), and analysis is
taking in all information pertaining to something and examine the information to reach an
interpretation usually beginning with a question (Did I not get hired because I’m not smart
enough?).
Determine whether the three following statements exemplify experience, interpretation, analysis,
or some combination of those three elements. Explain your answers.
-I failed the history test today because I couldn't find my textbook.
This statement would be an example of interpretation and experience. Experience as “I
failed the history test” states what was experienced. Interpretation as the statement states
“I forgot my textbook”.
-I lost my history textbook.
This statement would be an example of experience. This is straight forward statement that
states “I lost my history textbook”.
-I am not sure whether I need the textbook or just online sources to do well in my history class. I
will ask the professor about the best path to success.
This statement would be an example of analysis as the one making the statement is
making a questioning statement that is analyzing the statement along with interpreting potential
solutions for the question.
