When I first did click the link in this discussion John Cage 4'33” for piano It did make me somewhat confused due to the fact that there was no sound at all which with musical pieces there usually is I thought for a minute that I might had my device connected to another source that was making it not come out of the speakers I thought it would but I checked my Blutooth and nothing was connected so I did some fast forwarding and there was nothing it was not until I reached that of the very end that the conductor did actually stand up and everyone did applaud which I did hear this and yet it still did make me quite confused then I watched it all over again from the very beginning and saw the conductors hands movements and his breathing I did find this very fascinating. I believe after watching this that and I
think this piece was made to make people sit and ponder for only a moment and contemplate. And to just be in the present for but a moment and to actually hear the sounds that were surrounding you and I do agree with John cages portrayed of the music in 4’33” Now the composer that I did choose to focus on in this discussion is Igor Stravinsky. The work I have chose to focus on is the rite of spring in 1913 though this was developed as a piece for the stage and it has specific passages that do accompany the action as well as the characters and this piece did achieve greater fame as a concert piece and the rite of spring is considered one of the most influential musical pieces of the 20
th
century.
(Music 101. Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring). Now when you think of the classical music genre most people think of music that is relaxing and calming but unlike that this piece is actually seems sudden and scary somewhat as if something bad is about to happen. One fascinating thing about this piece is that a beautiful melody tries to emerge ( You can listen and hear this fat 5:11 and then it appears again at 7:40) but everything it does try to emerge that of the chaos take over again and the chaos pushes it aside. That of music has majorly changed in the 20
th
century this could possibly be due to the technology advancements as well as the new musical trends that did occur and the new genres that emerged as well
as the new styles. Sources Music 101. Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring | Music 101. (n.d.). https://courses.lumenlearning.com/suny-
