If I had to define Recreation, I would define it as an exercise or activity that can take place either
indoors or outdoors depending on the activity. Some activities that you can participate indoors, or
outdoors are basketball, badminton, volleyball, soccer, tennis, kayaking, fishing, or even playing
a game of golf.
If I had to define Leisure, I would define it as activities that you can take part of
outside of your daily life routines for example reading a book, going for a walk, listening to
music, having a bonfire or even movie nights. Personally, recreation and leisure are similar in
definitions because they both are activities that involve physical activity, and you can participate
in them both indoors and outdoors. For example, I have taken part in more leisure activities in
my life because I am always outside at the trailer either walking, reading a book, spending time
with my family whether its on the boat or kayaking with my mom.

Beliefs are an appraisal of the relationship between some object, action, or idea and some
attribute of that object, action, or idea. Values are” individual beliefs that provide motivation to
people to act in one way or another they also serve as a guide for human behaviour” (Ethics
Unwrapped,2023). My values and beliefs related to the importance of recreation is courage,
family, personal growth, religion, mentors, and education. The values and beliefs related to the
importance of recreation personally is family, support, and guidance because I feel that without
support from your family you can’t succeed in life and not having any guidance from your
educators/professors in your education will benefit to it because their there if you need help with
anything etc. The values and beliefs that I believe that are related to the importance of recreation
professionally is respect, integrity, honesty, trustworthy, teamwork, and communication. These
values and beliefs I find are related to recreation professionally and towards me because I have a
very good understanding and I believe in having respect, trust, and communication is key in
success or life especially when dealing with religion or in the workplace these values also tie in
with economically and environmentally recreation because it will allow you to create a positive
impact and how it results in individuals behaviour and how they act etc.

If I had to explain some of the experiences that shaped my values and beliefs is my religion and
believing in god and knowing that he is supporting me through my education, my mentor
especially in Toastmasters making sure that I’m developing the skills I need to become a better
communicator and guiding me, my personal experiences such as spending time with family and
friends because their the ones I can look up to for support when I am down or dealing with
something, and lastly my confidence to continue my education and push myself to learn
something new and expand my knowledge I already have on ECE and develop some ideas for
program planning when implementing activities for the kids I can bring that to the nursing homes
as well. The main experiences that shaped my values and beliefs is mostly society because I’m
surrounded by people that love me and care for me and just wants what’s best for me. For
example, when I was having a hard time in my ECE placement I only had my family to talk to
when I feel down about not doing well or not passing because they could see it everyday of how
hard I was trying, and it wasn’t good for the supervisors at the time.

If I had to explain how I wish to approach recreation and leisure in the future I would have to say
that my motivations for being a recreation professional one day is that I have experience
implementing activities for younger children and I have the heart for playing bingo and cards and
I want to just bring my knowledge of what I already know to the workforce and make residents
happier since they don’t get to do much . Some of the main motivations I have for being in the
recreation professional is social interaction with people, physical health/fitness such as being
active and exercising regularly and moving around, and lastly the interaction within the
environment such as around family and friends that you can have fun with. My professional
goals that I plan to us when I approach recreation and leisure in the future is to expand my
skillset and knowledge of what I already know and apply it to the workforce , foster team
collaboration by working with new people and working effectively together to get the job done in
a timely fashion which bring me to working on my time management skills such as if there is
something that has to get done I will do it , and lastly ask for more feedback or clarification for
something such as asking for help if I’m having trouble or ask for feedback about how I did on
something so I can learn for next time. The role of education, logic, aesthetics, and ethics in how
I will approach my profession in the recreation and leisure services is giving me the ability to
build and strength my social interaction skills and build my knowledge and be able to plan
activities for more populations such as elders, and adults instead of just kids, also being able to
understand how free time away from daily activities is spent
that is how the role of
education,
ethics helps me with the approach to my profession in the recreation and leisure services. The
way that the roles of logic and aesthetics play in my approach in my approach in the recreation
and leisure services is that I would plan to incorporate art activities such as crafts for the
6
residents to maybe do if they don’t want to play cards or bingo or something to get them being
creative etc..
