Miles 1 Keirton Miles Music Appreciation 10/22/2023 Concert Review 1: I have always had a brief fascination with music, I believe that is what has brought me to this class. Driving home, flipping through stations I would unintentionally click to the classical station and just be filled with bliss over the calming music with loud ups and downs. I appreciate all the performers and performers for the display of their musical talents for the future generations to learn and grow from. Sonata for Bassoon by John Steinbeck is very captivating and yet a bit of a surprise song to me at first, it started off with a bit of a slurred legato sound, almost giving off the emotion of mystery. The notes were just flowing out of the bassoon like molasses. The accompaniment of the organ added a very sharp staccato sound, instead of what I thought to be fighting against each other, wounded together very nicely. On paper when reading it quietly contradicts each other especially the bassoon, but nonetheless it worked very well in harmony which was a pleasant surprise. The organ is extremely shrill, compared to the almost inviting sound of the bassoon, which the listeners like me, could picture an almost a battle between good and evil for the control of the song. After a while I found the slow anticipation building up between the organ and bassoon. The organ goes through a string of accented staccato notes as if it is trying to display its overall dominance, creating an overall ominous sound. I found this musical display going through a crescendo and a decrescendo, and slowly the sound gets softer almost more friendly. When it begins to chime in and then all begins to work much better throughout the continuation of the song instead of the fighting, we find the song
[Last Name] 2 begins to work in harmony to create a smooth musical sound as one. I find the mood of the song changes so dramatically and becomes so uplifting that it gives me something that I can flow with. As I found myself nearing the end, I found the music being so much more slurred and conjoined, that a slow crescendo fell upon me. The pitch increases as in the range is very noticeable, then almost suddenly, the music falls off and is concluded but it feels as if the organ and the bassoon have resolved their conflict that has been occurring over the whole performance. The movements also included in this piece are the prelude, the browning, and the lament. Dale Nickell was on the organ and Tony Frederico on the bassoon, these two made this piece an enjoyable experience for the ears and hearts for everyone, me included. https://pdfsimpli.com/?account=propel&campaignid=877994&adgroupid=12384861&ke yword=24464062&pclid=f4b5e5dca1b5a3b80000018b587109e4d&source=NTA&matchtype=br oad&location=GA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhdndPq3n74
