Aim
This activity aims to foster language development, creativity, and social interaction in Child B through imaginative storytelling with puppets. It aligns with the early years curriculum by promoting language skills and imaginative play.
Your role/role of others
As the educator, my role is to introduce the activity, engage Child B in storytelling using puppets, and encourage imaginative expression.
I will read the chosen storybook with enthusiasm, using different voices for characters to model storytelling.
Support Child B in using the puppets to retell or create their stories.
Differentiation
For children with speech or language difficulties, simplify the story or use visuals to aid comprehension.
Provide extra support for children with fine motor challenges when manipulating the puppets.
Description of play activity/opportunity
Begin by introducing Child B to the puppets and explaining that they will use them to tell a story.
Choose an age-appropriate storybook with colorful illustrations and read it aloud, encouraging Child B to listen and engage with the narrative.
After reading, provide Child B with the puppets, allowing them to choose characters from the story or create their own.
Encourage Child B to retell or recreate parts of the story using the puppets, asking open-
ended questions to stimulate conversation.
Join in the storytelling, modeling storytelling techniques and imaginative play.
Foster social interaction by inviting Child B to share their story with peers if in a group setting.
Reflection- Reflect on own role in relation to the provision for supporting personal, social and emotional development in own setting
I observed Child B's language skills and creativity flourish during the puppet storytelling.
Child B actively engaged with the puppets, using them as a means of expression.
I realized the importance of providing opportunities for imaginative storytelling to support language development.
