Narrative Essay : The Outsider
Barrios, Emely Prof. Schusler ENC 1101/ Narrative Essay 4. Oct. 2017 The Outsider At times in life
there comes something called change. In my opinion, I was not a big fan of change. You cannot
imagine how I was feeling when my mother announced that we were moving. It was the middle of
my sixth–grade year, I was feeling countless emotions, none that could be explained at the moment
of the announcement. The main thing on my mind was school; my friends, my outstanding teachers,
and the environment. All things I had left behind. All I could think about was, "How will I ever
adjust?" I knew exactly what was to come, I knew exactly what I was going to become, an outcast.
There were numerous of ways on why I was feeling this way, but

On the other hand, students were receiving passing grades and I was the only student that had yet to
understand the material. Throughout sixth grade I wandered the school halls glancing at other
students smiling and laughing. All I wanted was a friend to associate with in those times of need.
Low self–esteem was a result of me being alone. Many times, I struggle with classwork and
homework due to not having the courage to ask questions. My grades were slowly decreasing and
what I thought I knew became blank to me. Not having confidence in what I knew affected me.
Catching up to my peers was the hardest thing I had to do. Becoming a new student half way into
the school year challenged me to the point that I had to review all the lessons since the beginning of
the year and teach them to myself. The consequences of not doing so guaranteed a failing grade in
the class. Another reason as to why I had to go back through all the lessons was for the state exams
at the end of the sixth–grade year. Being eleven years old, I believed to have had a an amount of
significant stress. I felt like an outsider very often, I was the only new student trying to learn the
material. Overall, being an outsider affected me physically and mentally. It created a long–lasting
effect in terms of my future school years. Having no one to speak to, different teaching styles, and
catching up on all my work

Literacy Narrative Essay example
At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter
my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my
everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the
action unless it relates to something I am very

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional
but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very
different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to
write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important
aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To
put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the
world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes
sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I
am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and
overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school
when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there
was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a
grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not
enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Indirect: A Fictional Narrative
"AHH!" I screamed. I was at Lazer Tag with my friends when I had suddenly fallen on the ramp. A
little kid was chasing me down the ramp and I was running back trying to make sure that he didn't
shoot me. That's when suddenly I had misplaced my foot and fell down at least 3 feet and landed on
my wrist. "AGH", I tried so hard not to cry but tears raced down my face faster than Usain Bolt.
Before I even knew it, a bunch of people crowds around like it was a crime scene. I then left the area
with a group of concerned people by my side. That's when my mom chimes in, "ARE YOU
OKAY!?" my mom yelled with concern. "Yes I'm fine can we just go home?" I sniffled as I tried to
hold back my tears. The employees offered me some type of pill and

I tried to tune her out by watching T.v. but that couldn't stop her. A few minutes after my mom's rant
the doctor came. He asked what happened and a few other questions then sent me off with another
nurse to get an x–ray of my wrist. She leads me to a room with one small light shining against a
table with a big camera connected to the ceiling with one little chair beside it. I sat in the chair and
then placed my wrist sideways on the table. I tried to be gentle as possible. The nurse took some
snapshots then took me back to the room again. The doctor then came in with a long bandage and a
splint to wrap around my arm. While wrapping my arm the nurse explained what had happened to
my wrist. "Um, well, it seems you have fractured 2 bones in your wrist, just wear this and you will
be just fine." After hearing that information I felt devastated knowing that my birthday party was
tomorrow. After hearing the depressing news, we gave our thanks and left. When we left, my mom
didn't say a single word along the way. Which meant I was going to have a long talk about the
hospital bill when we get home. Ever since that happened, I will never go to Lazer Tag

Essay on Narrative Therapy
Abstract
This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will
begin by discussing how the narrative approach defines and perceives problems. It will address how
narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This
paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three
main techniques used in narrative therapy, which will include externalization, deconstruction and
re–authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. The Logic
of Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is considered postmodern due to the fact that it uses a story
telling approach to

According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows
the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the
story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist
begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley,
1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the
problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time,
how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's
life (Kelley, 1996).
Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the
deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working
together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on
the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because it
lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According to
Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed
with the client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. They
