Question 1 I am forced to seek asylum in the fascinating ancient China history as I try to escape an oncoming asteroid catastrophe that will end humanity. This essay is focused on why China is exceptional as compared to Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Indus valley & India, Greek, and roman civilizations. The Mandate of Heaven, the enduring influence of Confucianism and Qin Dynasty’s unification illuminate the historical richness of China. These intertwined elements of culture, politics and philosophy reflect a people who suffered and grew up strong under their unique world view and vision for life. As per the Shujing1, Moral conduct is a pillar of the dynastic rise and fall in China’s Mandate of Heaven. For example, the collapse of the Shang Dynasty is said to have happened as a result of the sinful nature of the ruler, illustrating the centrality of ethical leadership. Through the Shujing1 historians learn about early Chinese beliefs concerning the mandate. The ancient Chinese historians, well grounded in Confucian philosophy, held that the Mandate of Heaven was a divinely inspired source of direction for the rulers. Through narration of the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, the Shujing attributes their rise or fall to virtuous rule1. The idea runs through the course of China’s history and explains why rulers need to be legitimate and why rebellions were justified. In the Shujing, the overthrow of the Shang Dynasty is associated with the corrupt and sinful acts of the ruler including cases of having roasted and ate opponents1. Despite the fact that these accounts may raise some questions about the historical reality, they play an important role from the literary point of view. This not only explains the transfer of power but also highlights the importance of the Confucianism on moral rectitude for a ruler’s legitimacy.
Under the Qin Dynasty led by Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, China was finally unified after centuries of war in the Warring States period through merciless methods like the standardization of writing and construction of the Great Wall. Secondly, this transformative generation’s records give a richer perspective on the problems and successes of this point in history. China was united during the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi’s visionary rule. Building a standardized writing system and the Great Wall manifested strong determination to maintain unity and defence. Although historical sources admit the success of the Qin Dynasty, there were controversies like suppression of the disliked views and tough legal measures as the fire of books and burying the scholars, which reveals its autocracy3. A diverse array of historical records provides a comprehensive view of the Qin Dynasty's impact on China's political landscape. It is through the Confucianism preached by Confucius during the Warring States period that he profoundly influenced the Chinese society. The idea of Confucianism in benevolent rule and stability influenced the Han Dynasty’s policies. The Analects3 contain direct teachings of Confucius on governance, morality, and social harmony. The influence of Confucianism is also seen in its incorporation into Chinese administrative systems and moral life. As for the lasting significance of Confucius’ philosophy, one needs to look no further than the Han Dynasty’s decision to make Confucianism the official code of conduct for statecraft. The Analects, which comprise the sayings of Confucius, serve as a complete doctrine for virtuous moral conduct, right government, and the value of parental obedience. Confucius’ ethical framework is embodied in the Analects as a primary source. By means of recorded discourses and aphorisms, Confucius gives advice to the rulers on the responsibility of moral leadership, virtues of simplicity, and cultivation of moral character3. They served as a model for emperors and officials, acting as a guideline determining the moral direction of Chinese society.
China reverberates with the ancient philosophies, governing structures, and moral values. The Chinese history has woven together the Mandate of Heaven, the Qin Dynasty, and Confucius to produce a comprehensive storyline that calls on people who wish to understand the nuances of an ancient but lasting civilization. Written in time’s annals is China’s legacy, and it remains embedded in its past and destiny until the present day. China’s historical narratives have important lessons for understanding how a civilization was created and which are heard today. 1.Mandate of Heaven http://acc6.its.brooklyn.cuny.edu/~phalsall/texts/shu-jing.html http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/ps/cup/classic_of_odes_king_wen.pdf 2.Hardy, Grant and Anne Behnke Kinney. This central tenet arises– divination as inseparable link to the ancestors and the spirits. These engravings ask questions about war and weather as well as the harvesting prospects and they make it clear that for the ancient Greeks, practical matters and great decisions were inseparable. These inscribed bones are central to the argument that the Shang rulers communicated with deities and ancestors and thus

shaped both strategic decisions and the material fabric of everyday life. Spiritual symbiosis emphasizes why divination occupied an essential place in Shang rulership that embraced the material and the supernatural facets of the Chinese society. Some of the main ideas are also captured in some the specific queries and responses within the oracle bone inscriptions. For example, when kings wanted to know if they should wage war or not, they turned to divination. Furthermore, questions about weather forecast and crops predictions are of a practical nature and show the importance of divination in everyday life. The inscriptions show that the support is strong since they were uniformly about everyday or urgent issues. The relationship between inquiries and results is logical and it enhances the legitimacy of the divination process. Such support takes place within the general framework of religion performed during the Shang period. Additionally, this support complements other related evidence that can be encountered during the course of study. Question 3 When it comes to diner conversation reaching across time and space into the past, I would have as a guest for dinner an esteemed man that is, Confucius from ancient China. During the Warring States period, a philosopher and teacher named Confucius substantially influenced the ethics and morality of Chinese civilization. I chose Confucius because he fundamentally transformed what we are and how we relate to our environment, hence providing an insight that is essential when considering early Chinese thought and politics. These include ideas of benevolence, filial piety and social harmony found in the Analects of Confucius. This could be an awesome chance to understand what was behind his philosophical doctrines and examine how ancient Confucianisms still affect China. I would ask him his opinion about the society where we live in harmony, what is the place of education here, and what he thinks on leadership.
Besides, such a dinner would exceed just a historical meeting; it would be an exchange between times where I could show glimpses from the modern world and to observe how Confucius would feel about the development of his doctrine. Through dialogue, the gap between time-tested wisdom and modern conflicts could be bridged in order to impart meaningful messages. Eating with Confucius would not only be a gastronomic pleasure but also an unusual voyage of discovery into the essence of his philosophical impact and its permanent significance in the building up of Chinese culture.
