Step-by-step explanation
I recently participated in a multicultural event at my local cultural center
aimed at acknowledging the LGBTQ population's different cultural and ethnic
backgrounds. The population was made up of people from all across the city
and from varied culturals and ethnic backgrounds. This event included
artwork, songs, cuisine, dances, and lectures from LGBTQ community
members, allowing me to understand more about that culture.
Participating in the cultural event about the LGBTQ community has greatly
influenced my understanding, bias, and comfort level in working with LGBTQ
members. I have gained a deeper appreciation for the unique challenges and
experiences that LGBTQ individuals face in their everyday lives, and I have
become more aware of the subtle and not-so-subtle forms of discrimination
they encounter. I have also become more comfortable with openly
expressing my support and solidarity for LGBTQ individuals and their rights.
Ultimately, this event has helped me to become a more open-minded and
accepting person.
Sexism, classism, and sexual orientation are all deeply connected to the
LGBTQ population. Sexism is seen in the way that LGBTQ individuals are
treated differently and judged harshly based on their gender identity or
sexuality. Classism is seen in the way that LGBTQ individuals are
discriminated against due to their economic background or class status. And
sexual orientation is seen in the way that LGBTQ individuals are
discriminated against due to their sexual orientation, which is seen as
socially unacceptable. All of these forms of discrimination contribute to the
marginalization of the LGBTQ population.
Overall, this experience has improved my understanding, bias, and degree of
comfort working with the designated group, as well as my perspectives of
diversity and difference. It has also helped me to better understand the role of
culture in defining and shaping our identities, the importance of celebrating
diversity to foster a more inclusive and respectful society, and the importance
of recognizing and respecting our differences to create a more equitable and
just society. It has opened my eyes to the struggles that LGBTQ people face
in their everyday lives, and has made me more aware of the various forms of
discrimination and prejudice they face. It has also given me a greater
appreciation for the diversity of experiences and perspectives that exists in
the LGBTQ community, and the beauty that comes from embracing and
celebrating our differences.
