What do you know about Asian Pacific Americans?
Asian Pacific Americans are made of a diverse group with roots in East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific Islands. While some Pacific Islanders indeed have a strong connection to the sea, it's crucial to acknowledge the diversity within the Asian Pacific American community, which includes various ethnicities with
distinct cultural backgrounds not necessarily centered around maritime traditions. My current understanding is that they are connected to the sea, but I recognize the need to learn more about their varied backgrounds.

What would you like to know or learn about Asian Pacific Americans?
What I would like to learn about Asian Pacific Americans is whether my current ideas are correct. Additionally, I am keen to explore their culinary traditions. What they eat
and how they cook. As a food enthusiast, I am eager to understand the impact of food on their culture and how it shapes their community. Exploring their diverse cuisines could provide insights into the rich tapestry of Asian Pacific American traditions beyond the sea-related aspects. I would also like to learn about the importance of family within their culture. How it shapes their communities and how it impacts their future. I would also like to see if any of the values they I have experienced being Vietnamese, relates to any of the values that Asian Pacific Americans have. Similarly, I would love to learn what stories and lessons that shape their culture and how those lessons could translate into my own life.

Why are you taking this course? My motivation for taking this course stems from the need for additional general studies credits, coupled with a genuine interest in the culture and history of Asian Pacific Americans. I would like to learn whether media depictions align with the authentic experiences of this community, contributing to a more nuanced understanding beyond stereotypes. By gaining insights into their history and culture, I hope to form a comprehensive view that goes beyond what is often portrayed in mainstream media.
I believe that developing an understanding of who they are can help me gain a more balanced world view.
