Kristin King September 2, 2023 ANTH 102/ UMGC Whether or not it's within us, our friends, our jobs, etc., we see transformation every day. The development of fresh ideas leads to cultural transformation, just as it does with other things (Vasundhra, 2023). The extent to which our culture has evolved since the time my parents were young drives me insane, in my opinion. Wearing a seatbelt is one action that I discovered was acceptable half a century ago but is now viewed as abnormal. There was no requirement for seatbelts back then. I am aware that in the past, kids used to be allowed to ride on their guardian's laps while they were driving, and the police didn't object. As a result of it raising safety concerns, I believe this behavior's status has altered. If the safety belt is not tight enough to prevent someone from passing through the windshield, U.S.- made seat belts are required (NHTSA, n.d). The same-sex marriage I discovered was a practice that was abnormal fifty years ago yet is now accepted. I discovered that same-sex unions were prohibited because the majority of people held the view that solely a man and woman could provide a secure environment for children and nurture them to become adults of success (Arroyo, 2017). They also worry that if they permit same-sex marriages, other unconventional couples will also demand the right to get married (Arroyo, 2017). I believe that the situation has changed as a result of the numerous couples fighting for the exact same privileges as heterosexual couples. The same level of respect that is shown to heterosexual couples should be extended to them. I disagree that it is acceptable that homosexual couples who are in a committed relationship should lose their rights and benefits. Reference: NHTSA (N.D).
