Module Eight Question 1 a. Who is the audience of this presentation? How do you know? b. Why does Claudia think the audience should care? c. What parts of the presentation are impactful? In other words, what parts of the presentation would really convince the audience that they should care? I would say that the audience of this presentation would be the general public. The reason I think this is because she brings in a social norm of how prisons should work and shows how we can change the norm to make it better and cost-efficient if we would put forth the effort and research on rehabilitation programs. Claudia thinks we should care because it helps us out all around. The taxpayer doesn't need to pay more money and the inmates become valuable members of our society again. Bringing in her personal experience, on how the rehabilitation program has helped her cousin, gives us as the readers, a practical example that it works. So it brings up her previous statement of it being cost-efficient for the taxpayer and keeping the guards and inmates safe during interactions. Module Eight Question 2 Identify places in Claudia's script that you think should be accompanied by visuals. For each place you identify, indicate what kind of information you think she should include on the slide. For example, you may think personal images are appropriate in some places, or that graphs or charts representing data may be helpful in others. When Claudia brings up the statistics of how many prisoners go back to jail within a five- year span, this is where she could have used a chart to show this number. Along with using a graph on the success rate the rehabilitation programs have over a span of a year. Talking about her experience with her cousin, she could have used some personal pictures of his mugshots from when he went to jail and an after picture of him in the present day. She also could have given an update on how well he is doing because of the rehabilitation programs that he was involved in. Module Eight Question 3 Choose the remaining 3-5 places in the script where you will incorporate visuals. Briefly note where you will include these visuals, and describe what will appear on the slide. One of the visuals that I would use is a chart that shows the number of veterans that commit suicide every day. Maybe show a personal picture of me and my squad during our combat deployment to Afghanistan and tell of one of my brothers that took his own life. Show the different programs that the VA and non-profit organizations have available for veterans and
their families. Module Eight Question 4 Complete the checklist after practicing your presentation. Identify at least three adjustments that you will make to improve the presentation based on this critical evaluation. 1. Shorten the information and straight to the point Use helpful charts that will back up my massage Not to make it plain but make it capture my audience Module Eight Question 5 Identify opportunities that you have to speak in public and practice these presentation skills, even if not giving a formal presentation. How will using these tips help you communicate your message? I am a firearms instructor, so my public speaking skills are always being refined, and I am always trying to get better at it. Being able to go over the material that I am presenting and communicate the material clearly and concisely is important. Practicing my presentation in front of a mirror is a good way to make sure I know the material and how I look presenting it. Module Eight Question 6 Consider all you've learned throughout this course. In your opinion, what are two of the most important concepts or skills you learned that are most relevant to your everyday life? Through this course, I have learned a lot. I think the two essential skills most relevant to everyday life are psychology and anthropology, knowing how people act and why they do what they do, to better understand them. Using these skills could better society and change the way people view each other. Module Eight Question 7
What did you enjoy most about this course? The thing that I enjoyed the most about this course is being able to read the discussions of my classmates. Being able to see the different insights of each of my classmates and how they see the world is always interesting.
