Anastacia Wright Lab 8 activity Part 1: Answers and work (pictures of written work are OK) for the 2D joint angles calculated on Tab 1 - Ankle joint angle: 94.2° - Knee Joint angle: 136.9° - Hip joint angle: 146.3° Part 2: Include a copy of the graph created that includes all three joint angles on a single graph with time on the x-axis 1 2 3 4 -40 -20 0 20 40 60 Chart Title Ankle Angle X (deg) Knee Angle X (deg) Hip Angle X (deg) ( I’m sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to make my graph and the data wasn’t working.) Based on the data and discussion in class, answer the following questions: 1. Based on the Right-hand Rule, which movements correspond to the positive vs. negative sagittal plane joint angles? Answer this for the Hip, Knee, and Ankle Joint. - Plantarflexion at the ankle is positive and dorsiflexion at the ankle is positive. Flexion at the knee is positive and extension at the knee negative. Extension at the hip is negative and flexion at the hip is positive. Based on this answer, create a table for peak extension/plantarflexion and flexion/dorsiflexion angular velocities and accelerations. Example can be found in Excel data
Extension Accerleration Flexion Acceleration Ankle Knee Hip Ankle Knee Hip -14749.6 10454.15 -9124.59 19092.22 -9327.53 5075.783 2. Which joint has the fastest Extension/Plantarflexion velocity? Flexion/Dorsiflexion velocity? In what order to these peaks occur during the gait cycle? Why? - The knee joint has the fastest extension velocity. The ankle joint has the fastest velocity. The knee joint peak is during the swing phase and more specifically the terminal period. The ankle joint peak is during the swing phase. 3. What motion is occurring in each joint at the time of peak extension/plantarflexion acceleration? What could this tell you about the joint’s contribution during running? - There is knee extension during the peak, hip flexion and ankle dorsiflexion at peak. Knee extension is an extension to absorb your body’s weight and works ankle and hip flexion/dorsiflexion to move you forward.
